Invitation to Facilitate

at the 11th Annual IAF Asia Facilitator Conference

 in Bangkok August 27 – 29, 2008


Dear Facilitator,

We are pleased to announce the 11th Annual IAF Asia Facilitator Conference and CPF assessment to be held in Bangkok as follows:

 August 25 & 26, Monday and Tuesday: IAF facilitator certification assessment (CPF)

August 27 & 28, Wednesday and Thursday:  Conference with concurrent sessions, most in English, one or two in Thai

August 29, Friday:  Full day Post-Conference

 

Over the years these conferences have built a reputation for being innovative, informative, enlightening, and enjoyable. On an average the 150-250 participants have come from ten different countries in the Asia Pacific region and beyond---Europe, Australia , United States , Africa , etc.  One of the keys to making these facilitator conferences successful is the quality of the facilitated workshops: both the concurrent sessions as well as the day-long post conference workshops.

 

We are pleased to invite you to submit a proposal to conduct a workshop at this year's conference, according to the following criteria:

 

Concurrent Sessions (90 – 120 minutes) (August 27 & 28):  These workshops, mostly in English, one or two in Thai, may be of any topic that illustrates facilitation (not just training) methodology and techniques.

 

Full day Post Conference workshops (August 29):  These workshops, in English, are for participants of all levels wishing to gain a greater depth in facilitation not possible in the 90-120 minutes conference concurrent workshops.  Leading-edge facilitation methodologies, innovations in workshop design, and insights about working with diverse human dynamics are examples of past offerings.

 

Please consider our invitation and fill in the attached form for submission to us no later than January 30, 2008 or sooner, if possible.

 

Please indicate your interest to participate by sending an email to us first - then followed by your submission by January 30, 2008..

 

Please note that the concurrent sessions of 90- 120 minutes will run on August 27 and 28, and the day-long workshops will run on August 29 (post conference).  As you write the proposal, please note the IAF Competencies accompanying this packet - preference will be given to proposals that illustrate these competencies.

 

As with all IAF conferences, the workshop facilitators are also participants in the conference, and as such, pay a reduced registration fee to attend the conference. This helps keep the costs down for this not-for-profit conference and encourages participation by as many people as possible.

Foundational Facilitator Competencies

Background

The International Association of Facilitators (IAF™) is the world-wide professional body established to promote, support and advance the art and practice of professional facilitation through methods exchange, professional growth, practical research and collegial networking.  In response to the needs of members and their customers, IAF established the Professional Facilitator Certification Program. 

The Professional Facilitator Certification Program provides successful candidates with the professional credential “Certified Professional Facilitator™” (CPF™), as signified by a Certificate.  This credential is the leading indicator that the facilitator is competent in each of the basic facilitator competencies.  This document, Foundational Facilitator Competencies © IAF™ 2003, provides an overview of the competency framework that is the basis of the CPF certification. 

The competency framework described in Foundational Facilitator Competencies was developed over several years by IAF with the support of IAF members and facilitators from all over the world.  The competencies reflected in the document and assessed in the Certification Process form the basic set of skills, knowledge, and behaviors that facilitators must have in order to be successful facilitating in a wide variety of environments.  Copies of this document are available free of charge from the IAF web site (www.iaf-world.org) or from the certification Program Administrator, at certify@iaf-world.org  For information regarding theory and practice, including methods and outcomes associated with each of the competencies, see the IAF Handbook of Facilitation, published by Jossey-Bass.

The Competencies

 A.     Create Collaborative Client Relationships
